Tadas Karosas

In 1986 Tadas Karosas has graduated from the Faculty of Law at Vilnius University and approximately six years ago worked in the Prosecutor’s Office. However, in the public the businessman is much better known as a creator of the most innovative businesses and a successful investor.
Tadas Karosas has been working in the business world for more than 20 years. Over that period, a number of developments were realized: from the largest network of restaurants in the Baltic States to the modern online shops and other innovative projects.
When creating a new business or developing companies, the entrepreneur always seeks to have them becoming the field leaders and bringing new, yet unseen things to Lithuania.
In the business world Tadas Karosas became known when in 1992, along with his associates, he founded and started the development of “Mineraliniai vandenys” company. They were the first ones in Lithuania who brought real good wine, whisky and cognac, presented such famous and high-priced brands as Hennessy, Moët & Chandon, Dom Pérignon, Martell, Chivas Regal, Grant, Absolut, as well as cheaper beverages still untried by many Lithuanians like wine J.P. Chenet in curved-neck bottles or the real Ararat.
Around the same time the businessman started the development of cosmetics import and founded the first Lithuanian network of cosmetics and perfumery shops called “Sarma” with an installed self-service system. At the time it was the largest cosmetics and perfumery shops network in the Baltic States, with more than 80 shops offering inexpensive and quality products for everyone. The company has been importing many of “Sarma” products. This is how Lumene, Make up for ever, Revlon and other products appeared in Lithuania. In 2004, “Sarma” retail cosmetics shops network was sold to investors and “Douglas” store network was created based on that. Business of cosmetics sales did not cease, it is continued by the later founded UAB “Kruzas Nordic Cosmetics Distribution”. This is one of the leading perfumery and cosmetics import and wholesale trade companies in the Baltic States. (www.kruzas.lt)
In 1997, Tadas Karosas, together with his brother, opened the first “Čili pica” restaurant offering in Lithuania yet unseen dishes, exceptional environment, and the best food and service quality. Already from the first day there are lines of people waiting to get to the restaurant. Soon, the number of restaurants began increasing. Currently, “Čili pica” is the largest chain of restaurants in the Baltic States. Expansion of the network also brought some innovations. “Tokyo” – the first real Japanese restaurant – was opened in Lithuania. Entrepreneurs were one of the first ones who presented Chinese cuisine by opening “Čili Kinija” restaurants. At the moment those are replaced by “Soya” restaurants uniting the cuisine of four Asian countries under one roof. There is a lot of attention and visitors in “Čili kaimas” restaurants offering unique Lithuanian environment and Lithuanian food (real and tasty zeppelins, a range of stuffed cabbage leafs dishes and dumplings) that soon will become grill&salad “Forest” restaurants offering good and healthy food.  Moreover, each network has been and still is the largest in its field in Lithuania.
In 1999 “Gelvora” security company founded by Tadas Karosas started operating. Later this business was sold to investors and based on the company “Falck Security” has started operating in Lithuania. Then GSK company was founded and later sold to investors from Sweden.
In 2005, SPA centers massage and beauty parlors network ‘East Island’ was founded. Here for the first time in Lithuania visitors were able to enjoy massages of real massage therapists from Thailand, Cambodia, and India. Until then, there were no massage specialists from exotic countries in Lithuania. At the similar time, “Grand Casino World” entertainment, leisure and casino center founded by the businessman was opened in Vilnius. It was the largest in the Baltic States entertainment complex corresponding to global standards. The casino occupied only a small part of this complex since, first of all, the center housed four restaurants and a nightclub meeting western standards visited by world’s famous DJs and other celebrities, which many times confirmed that there are not many of such high-quality entertainment centers in the world.
Since 2007 Tadas Karosas began to focus on online shopping and leisure projects. The first e-shop Pigu.lt was founded, which soon became the largest and by far recognized by customers as the best e-shop in Lithuania. UAB “Pigu” also owns online stores in Latvia (220.lv and dlb.lv), Estonia (dlb.ee) and in Finland (dlb.fi). Pigu.lt is recognized as number one e-shop in the Baltic States.
The first Lithuanian Internet TV titled CTV, which was later sold to investors, was launched during similar time. CTV was offering its audience fun and untraditional reports that were quickly becoming Internet folklore and are watched to this day. It is namely here where ‘Šapro ikrai’, ‘litovcai’, ‘masonai’, ‘riteriai’ and other characters that the audience especially liked have appeared.
A year ago, Tadas Karosas has founded “PriceOn.lt” – this is the first Lithuanian price comparison system, which has considerable ambitions on the foreign markets. This year yet another new project of mine titled “Sau.lt” was launched – 2013 online shop for women’s needs.
This could be really not the end of the list as the entrepreneur’s mind is full of new ideas for progressive and innovative businesses. Unfortunately, lately there is a pressure from some people working in the law enforcement system and attempts to make business conditions more difficult and damage the reputation of Tadas Karosas, which can change the entrepreneur’s plans to continue the investment and creation of new work places in Lithuania.
